RICK REYES, past chair
Appointed to Emeritus Officer by Chair Lawson Stuart in 2013 to commemorate his service as the Third Chair and First Latino Officer of the Veterans Caucus.
Ricardo "Rick" Reyes is a Marine Corps Infantry veteran who served in deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Raised in Southeast Los Angeles as a first generation American, Rick understands the importance of fair access to economic opportunity. With a commitment to service, Rick remains engaged in his community as the Veterans Caucus Immediate Past Chairman for the California Democratic Party, Governor Jerry Brown’s appointee to the California Mexican American Veterans Memorial Commission, elected DSCC/DCCC Delegate for the 63rd Assembly District, and elected DNC delegate for the 44th Congressional District. He is Founder of the Veterans Democratic Club of Los Angeles County, California State Captain of VoteVets.org, and member of Truman National Security Project's Defense Council. As a decorated combat veteran who experienced firsthand the effects of war, Rick developed an interest in working toward improving US Foreign Policy and has worked nationally on issues of National Security, Energy and Veterans Affairs. Currently, Rick is a Political Coordinator for the largest labor advocacy organization in California, SEIU United Long Term Care Workers. In that capacity, Rick is dedicated to providing and protecting quality care for some of California's most vulnerable residents; seniors, people with disabilities and the mentally ill. Rick is also a business owner - in the growing industry of clean energy - who recognizes our unsustainable energy demands are a major threat to our economy and national security - he supports fast, bold action to protect America by advocating for clean energy production. Rick believes It is time for America to stand strong on its own – independent and in control of its energy future.
